Loved the art installation? Now buy the lipstick. Today as multi-disciplinary art festival Luminato winds down in Toronto, Lancôme (one of the beauty brands in the portfolio of its key sponsor L’Oreal) released a limited-edition lipstick colour called “Fast Kisses.” The lippy was created by Canadian designer Mark Fast with Lancôme makeup artist Lora Spiga begin_of_the_skype_highlighting end_of_the_skype_highlighting. The 29-year-old designer from Winnipeg has made his name at London Fashion Week in England and internationally with his signature body conscious, peek-a-boo dresses, which he painstakingly creates using domestic knitting machines. Fast’s namesake lipstick shade, a bright summer fuchsia, echoes the showstopping pink gown featured in his Luminato art installation “The Ascension of Beauty,” which is still on view at Brookfield Place until Sunday.

The days are also numbered for Lancôme’s Fast Kisses lipstick: the intense (and, based on the various skin tones and ethnicities of the Lancôme makeup pros I spotted wearing it this evening, universally flattering) peony pink shade is available for three days only, until Saturday. How to do a beautiful nude make up ? It’s not as simple as one could believe, because nude is a natural but sophisticated make up ; just applying some blush and mascara is not a real nude make up, you have to work a little bit more :

Of course, the skin has got to be perfect : foundation (don’t choose one that is too mat, natural skin has always a bit of glow inside – Photogenic Lumessence will be perfect if your skin is dry, otherwise prefer Color Ideal).

Apply some concealer (La Touche Pro) on small blemishes or redness. If you are tired, apply a hint of Flash Retouche around the mouth, under the eyes and along the nose. Set all this with powder (Poudre Majeur Excellence Libre) only on the T zone if your skin is dry, everywhere if it’s oily.

Use Tropique Minérale Golden Croisette as a blush on the apple of your cheeks. It’s warm and glowy, perfect for a nude make up.

On your eyes, use the Color Focus Palette in Rose des Sables: the colors are soft and neutral; they’re for everyone as they match the natural colors of skin and hair. Of course, always wear mascara (Hypnôse Precious Cells can be used in one or several layers, as you prefer).

Finish your nude make up with a touch of Color Fever Gloss in Sand : it will give a bright sensuality to your lips without bringing too much color.

You’re ready ! You look gorgeous and healthy, and it looks natural !

You have beautiful blue or green eyes, and you have always been told that blue / green eye shadows were forbidden?

Good news, it’s not true!

Actually, it’s usually said that light eyes should not wear light or vivid colors because the result might look a bit bleached (especially if you also have pale lashes). To avoid this, just make sure that the upper lashline is intensified by a dark line: you can use powder (Ombre Absolue), pencil (Crayon Khôl) or liquid liner (Art Liner or Ink Artliner). If you don’t want to wear black eye liner you can choose a dark blue, bronze or grey. And of course, apply a lot of black mascara (Hypnôse Precious Cells) to intensify your lashes as well.

On the lower lid, if your lashes are very pale, apply a grey, bronze or blue pencil (depending on the color of the eye shadow) on the inside of the eye contour.

The only difficulty might be to mix blue eyes with green make up or vice-versa, as the colors may “fight” together and your eye color would not be enhanced as it could be (but if you like it, do it, the only important thing is you own taste !).

So go to color, it’s summer; it’s the moment to try new make overs!

For women who love make-up, what to buy?

As I was looking for foundation with a matte finish, a Lancôme Make-up Artist approached me at the counter. Since summer is almost here, I want to make sure my skin doesn’t look shiny. He chose for me Teint Idole Silky Mat.

I learned that you actually aren’t supposed to test the foundation on your hand like I always used to do, but that this is just good for trying out the texture. He told me I should always test the color on my jaw line, because foundation should disappear into your face and neck. If it’s hard to decide between two shades, you can compare them side by side, and you’ll immediately see which one goes best with your skin tone.

I asked how I could get the glowing, sun-kissed look you see in magazines. Then he showed me Star Bronzer Compact for a healthy glow and to make me look like I’ve just spent some time in the sun. The application technique is really important for bronzer. You should apply a thin line under your cheek bone from the hair line out to the apple of your cheek, then a bit to the forehead, bridge of the nose, and then the chin. I’ll need some practice to get it just right!

The final touch for my new look is lipstick. There are so many colors! How can I know which one will look good on me?

The Make-up Artist tells me that there are three families of lipstick color: reds (ranging from red to orange), browns (ranging from beige to brown), and pinks (ranging from pink to purple). The first thing I have to choose is a color family. Let’s go for a coral shade! It’s so fresh (and in style!), and I know it looks good on everyone.

I immediately see which one I like. Can you guess? Yes, it’s the one in the middle! It’s Absolu Rouge n° 152.

One more tip: to make color look more vibrant and sexy, apply some gloss (Absolu Crème de Brillance) over lipstick. You’ll see the difference right away!

Eye liner gives eyes a sexy, glamorous look. It reminds us of Hollywood actresses, and lots of us dream of the perfect lined eye; but most of us don’t know how to do it successfully.

But don’t worry, there are answers! Most importantly, keep in mind that only practice that makes perfect. I always say that it’s exactly like learning to paint your nails, it’s hard at first but after a while it becomes second nature!

First, you have to pick out the product that’s right for you.

If you are a total beginner, I highly recommend gel liner (Ink Artliner) because it goes on thick and comes with a special brush. It’s easy to control and allows you to create the perfect sexy lined eye in just a few seconds.

If you want something softer that can be smudged into your eye shadow, a pencil liner is a good option. There are many colors to choose from so you can coordinate it with the rest of your make up (Crayon Khôl) or with your eye color. You can even wear it for a day at the beach thanks to waterproof formulas!

For a very precise and intense lined eye, you should try Art Liner and special mousse brush. This technique is slightly more difficult so you may want to practice a bit to get the hang of it, but it’s worth it because the results are simply stunning!

The best part is that you can wear eye liner every day; it’s no longer just for an evening look. Just pay attention to how you apply it: keep the line very thin at the inner corner of the eye, and a little bit thicker at the outer corner. This will give you a “cat eye effect,” which I think is so gorgeous! You can continue it out as far as you like, it’s totally up to you.

When deciding which colors to use, remember that dark colors always look great on the upper lid. You can apply light ones on the lower lash line for a very fresh look that really brightens you eyes.

All you need is a little practice and within a week you’ll be the eye liner queen!

It’s holiday time, girls! You’re probably going to be hopping on a few aeroplanes over the summer, and you’re wondering how to manage your make-up on board?

Well, it depends on the flight, of course: for a long-haul one, the best is to wear nothing on your skin except moisturizer. You’ll feel much more comfortable as cabin air is very dry.

If you’re catching a shorter flight (up to 4 or 5 hours), bear in mind that your skin will suffer from dehydration too. So you should choose moisturizing products such as Teint Idole Ultra for your foundation (don’t powder it just yet, wait until you land and use that compact powder you have in your purse – Poudre Majeur Excellence Compact).

Use Blush Subtil Highlighter 003 for its comfort.

Use the same kind of product for your eyes: a creamy formula (Le Khôl Gloss waterproof) will prevent eyelid dehydration, feel comfortable, and will be very easy to touch up if necessary. And the most important: its long-lasting result!

Finish with a touch of your favourite mascara and a lip balm to keep your lips lovely throughout the flight (La Base L’Absolu Rouge) ; you can add an easy-to-wear gloss (Juicy Tubes) in the arrivals lounge!

So sit back, relax and enjoy the flight!
